I have had the joy and honor of teaching yoga for 26 years. Personally, yoga has helped me to be
more conscious and present in my life. It has taught me to be with the whole picture of what it means
to be human: love, loss, illness, aging, vulnerability, growth and change. The physical aspects of
alignment based yoga began to stabilize my injury prone body and improve my posture. The
introspective practices helped me create a healthier relationship with myself and the world around
me. The beauty of teaching what I'm passionate about is knowing that there is always more to
experience. I'm continue to feel inspired and it's always evolving.
My joy as a teacher is to share ways of moving, breathing and being present that can make life
sweeter and more meaningful. All of my classes come from a foundation of self-compassion and fine
tuning our individual discernment. No more trying to squeeze your unique body/mind into a cookie-
cutter pose. Instead, the goal is to create life-giving, regenerative outcomes and to feel inspired in the
process of it all. The methods and ideas that I share are designed to empower students, to increase
their own personal choice and agency on the mat, and in life.
I received my teacher training in 1999 with Mary Beth Markus at Desert Song Yoga in Phoenix, AZ.
Major influences through the years include Mary Beth Markus, Rama Jyoti Vernon, Doug Keller, Erich
Schiffmann, Nischala Joy Devi, Donna Farhi, Suzi Hurley, Elise Miller, Susi Hately, Kamini Desai who led
my Yoga Nidra teacher trainings, Tom Myers for his expertise on fascia, Kathleen Porter and Esther
Gokhale who taught me about primal posture, Will Johnson for changing my relationship to gravity,
Matthew J. Taylor PT, PhD for a yogic view of anatomy and therapeutics, and Hanna Somatic teachers
James Knight, Susan Koenig and Martha Peterson.
My continued studies include:
therapeutic effects and best practices of yoga
promoting joint health with functional movement
releasing long held patterns through fascia remodeling and somatic principles
finding ease in our bodies through natural alignment theory
exploring a wide breadth of mind-body techniques including the I AM Method of Yoga Nidra.
I am able to teach what I love because of the wisdom, encouragement and open hearts of all of my
extraordinary teachers and incredible students through the years. I am here to support your well-
being and welcome you as you are. Every class I share my commitment as a lifelong student to offer
what I continue to learn about self-care, self-compassion and how to move well at every stage in life.
I would love to have you join me!
With Loving-kindness,
Heidi
